Leona Towner
Multimedia Journalist

ABOUT

I am a Multimedia Journalist.

I have a masters in Broadcast Journalism from American University and a bachelor's degree in Mass Communication from the Illustrious Tennessee State University.

I have experience in national and local newsrooms. At Fox News Network, I was a jr. booker before receiving an opportunity to do some on-air work as a Multimedia Journalist at WZZM-13 in Grand Rapids, MI. Then, I moved to Chicago, IL to work as an assignment editor for a news start-up, Newsnation.

I grew up in foster care full of questions that no one would answer. I learned to gather information and figure out the facts of my situation because I was never satisfied with just not knowing.

I made it my job to share information as I gathered it. I've realized that in a world full of misinformation, all I can do is gather the little evidence that truth leaves behind. Then, I offer its perspective to anyone willing to listen to it.

I am a current member of the National Association of Black Journalists, where I won the 2018 NCAT Best News Writer Award and have been chosen as an author to showcase at their 2024 national convention.

In my spare time, I volunteer at places I learn about through my stories, publish episodes of my podcast "Press Release", perform slam poetry, and binge-watch comedic drama's.
